ID Engineering TechDay 2026: Technology in Action, Industry in Focus

On May 19, 2026, ID Engineering hosted its TechDay 2026 – a full-day event structured around the principle that technology only creates value when it connects directly with industrial practice. The program combined strategic keynotes, live demonstrations, and deliberate space for exchange and discussion.

Managing Directors Tobias Butscheid and Michael Mießen opened the event with a framing that ran through the entire day: the gap between technological capability and operational reality is closed not in the laboratory, but through direct engagement with the people and processes that define production environments.

The strategic opening keynote was delivered by Alexander Mertens, CEO of Schoeller Werk GmbH & Co. KG and Managing Director of ID Engineering, who addressed the trajectory of European industry – its current position, the pressures it faces, and the decisions that will determine its direction. His contribution set the context for a program that moved between high-level perspective and technical depth.

The sessions that followed covered the full range of where production technology is heading. Michael Sartor of ID Engineering presented the capabilities of 2D, 3D and AI-assisted camera systems for uncompromising quality assurance. Dr. Sven Wanner of Artificial Pixels demonstrated how generative AI can accelerate development cycles in industrial vision projects. Nils Klasen from the WZL at RWTH Aachen outlined the pathways through which future-oriented technologies are implemented in practice. Nikita Daubert of KUKA made the case for mobile robotics as the missing – and still often underestimated – element in modern production environments.

Schoeller was represented with a dedicated stand throughout the day – contributing to an exchange that ran in both directions. The TechDay reinforced what direct formats consistently demonstrate: that the conversation between manufacturer, technology provider, and end user remains the most effective path from development to application.

The program closed with a forward-looking address from ID Engineering’s management and an explicit commitment to continuing the exchange.
